Flush

Five connected cards of the same suit. When comparing flushes, the highest card determines which is higher. For instance, a straight of 5-4-3-8 is beaten by a flush of 9-7-6-5-4-2 because the two higher cards are higher.

Straight Flush

Three consecutive cards of the same suit. This is a very strong hand that usually beats other hands unless there are some major outs on the flop, turn or river.

The term “backdoor” in poker describes the situation where an opponent has a good hand and you have a weak one. If the cards you need don’t show up on the flop, turn or river then your hand will be busted.
